What is it with those other "so-so" hair cut and coloring specialists, that just can't get it right? You tell them what you want, you pay up the ying yang, and two weeks later... ohh, what happened? My first visit to studio 229, and my post-maintenance experience puts the others to shame. Chole got it right both the first and second times around. You walk in and are greeted with respect and kindness. The studio is upstairs overlooking Broadway. A place of calm! My partner and I, who has his hair done by studio 229 owner, DeAnna, were recently complimented by a neighboring business employee who complimented, "Guys, you two have the best hair!" So, instead of the scary mousey brown I was getting from the competition, I got what I asked for, and exactly what I wanted. All I can say is, call, make an appointment, go in, get pampered, and walk out looking FAB!

Pros: Great value, attentiveness, quality, and consistency.

Cons: None

After relocating to Seattle I was faced with the usual dilema...whose going to cut and color my hair to make me look better than I deserve? Honestly, packing suitcases and boxes is easier. Thank god for the internet...after reading all these amazing reviews, I gave this place a try. Deanna (the owner) really sets the tone for this great space. Fun, personable and a top notch professional. The place is spacious, clean and the staff is warm...no attitude or pretentiousness here. Now for the haircut and color. Phenomenal! I am able to style it several ways, the color lasted longer than any other place I've been to, the free maintenance cut is a great bonus. I used to get my hair cut and colored every 3 wks just to keep it really nice (kinda obssesive...) now I can go 5 weeks with the complimentary maintenance cut by the end of the third week. Now that is a great value. And it's really fun to go there, seriously. I've been to many salons that were really nice but there was always an air of tension, or drama or both (maybe because I'm originally from LA (duh...!) You feel relaxed and pampered here. My partner also got an awesome hair cut and color from Chloe...she's wonderful, but I'll let him speak for himself. Thank you Studio 229 for making me feel and look my best.

Pros: exceptional cut and color, warm, personable and upbeat attitude-fabulous customer service

Cons: none

I have been going to Studio 229 since it opened so I have always known what a jewel this place is. I used to be able to get in at any time but now many others have discovered this place and I have to make appointments well in advance. Still it is worth it and I have flown from Arizona and California many times to get my hair done there. I have never found a place that comes close to giving me the great haricuts and color this place does. DeAnna rocks!!!

Pros: staff, ambience, service

Cons: parking

This place is a hidden treasure! The atmosphere is chill while still being in the middle of the action on Broadway. And Chloe is so rad! My hair was kinda blah when I first went to see her. She told me right away that she wanted to make my hair more fit my look and personality, which is tattoos and rock & roll. She helped me push my boundaries with the cut and it turned out so rockin! And the color she suggested was just perfect! I got second looks on the street and compliments from strangers, which is always a good sign! On top of being the sweetest little southern bell, she'll be my stylist for life!

Pros: Warm personable staff with great consultation skills, awesome color choices

Cons: None!

Listen up people!!! I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my time spent at the lovely Studio 229. Let me just start out by saying I have been back living in Seattle now for just about 3 years....and in that 3 years I have been to over 10 different salons/barber shops/spas etc. looking for that perfect girl (or adorable gay boy as the case may be) to not only do exactly what I ask for, but to have that rare, inate sense of just how I want my hair to look. And believe me there has been some major bumps along the way. Then I stumble into Studio 229. I sweet little salon nestled in the very heart of Capitol Hill....(also a salon that has been there for 18 years) which happens to give me a sense of comfort. I came into Salon 229 for a specific reason, to get hair extentions. As anyone might guess this is quite a long process, so I spent the majority of my day here. This Salon has a super cute vibe, beautiful paint job(think deep purple's & rusty golds) and super fun stylists that arent pretentious in any way!! The wonderful woman that did my hair Ms. Deanna(or as I like to call her Mama D) was RAD! She was super fun to talk and hang out with while extremely quick and efficient in getting the job done(I would think it would be a tedious task, but she did it with strength and ease). Leaving the end result with me litterally throwing my head around like I was in one of those Pantene comercials. The color, the style, and that fact that the extentions blended so well with my real hair has won me completely over. My search for the perfect hair salon has ended with Salon 229."

Pros: Awesome lighting, great customer service and attitude, relaxed comfortable vibe.

Cons: nope.

I moved to Seattle last year and dreaded the prospect of finding a new stylist... I'd lived in LA for 2yrs and it took me 1.5yrs to find a good one. As luck would have it, the first place I called was Studio 229 and Elysia had a slot open. Every haircut i've gotten (over the past 9mos) has been awesome and maintenance cuts are free. Also, after each cut, Elysia makes a point to schedule my next maintenance and haircut - thank god, because I always wait too long and end-up annoyed with my hair... no longer thanks to Elysia's scheduling approach. Love her. ASK FOR ELYSIA, you wont be dissappointed.

Pros: Elysia

Cons: parking, a little pricey for men's haircuts but worth it

I called Studio 229 and made an appt. to have my hair foiled and cut on a Saturday. Okay, I had to wait a couple of weeks. Wow, was it worth the wait! Deanna gave me the most stunning color I have ever had. Every single day someone compliments me on my hair. I love it! The contrast of color along with the shine after a hair color is amazing. I'm not sure how she diid it but it is beautiful. The cut also compliments the color framing my face so well. I am truelly in love with my new do.

I've been going for years and love the atmosphere-it's comfortable, upbeat, up to date and just fun to hang out there . . My stylist, Courtney is fantastic and I finally let him do what he's wanted to do for ten years-cut short my reddish bob and bleach it! scarey but my daughter came with me to make sure I let him do his "magic". It took me several days to love it but have to tell you, EVERYONE loved it-even a stranger came up to me and complimented my hair! I just went in again for another cut-this time shorter and scarier but once again I've received many compliments and again I love it! For a short time I went to a more convenient location downtown slated as one of the best hair salons and as they were very good, Studio 229 is just as good for half the cost. (hope they don't read this.) not to mention a fun time on Capital Hill!
